Though pork patties are pretty much unheard of at McDonald’s back home, they actually pop up on several international menus (most notably in Germany, where the McRib is a permanent item on the menu).
I recently tried some pretty bizarre stuff at McDonald’s in India, but somehow, I think the salad I tasted in Denmark was the most un-McDonald’s-like thing that I’ve ever had.
McDonald’s in Hungary has a pork burger called the Pig McFarm, and it’s actually pretty interesting.
You can’t go wrong with fried cheese. There’s something about the gooey/crispy contrast that’s always going to be satisfying.
I went to McDonald’s. In Brussels. For real this time! I saw the Golden Arches and everything, so I can say with a reasonable degree of certainly that I wasn’t tricked into going to a different restaurant (again).
Here’s a weird thing that happened: I saw a location of McDonald’s in the Brussels airport, went in, ordered, and then ate my food. Not so weird, right? Here’s the weird part: it wasn’t McDonald’s. It was a Belgian fast food chain called Quick.
McDonald’s in Greece might have one of the most boring menus of any McDonald’s in the world — it’s pretty much exclusively the usual suspects. Oddly enough, they don’t even have the Greek Mac that I tried in Cyprus.
Burger King is the worst. That’s barely even an opinion — that’s just a fact. It’s consistently shoddy in a way that’s quite shocking. So despite my interest in kooky local creations at fast food chains across the world, I’ve never had any particular interest in checking out BK.
Well, I just tried the Halloumi Whopper at Burger King in Cyprus, and yeah — I was right to avoid Burger King. It’s just as shoddy in Europe as it is back home.
There’s only one thing on the menu at McDonald’s in Cyprus that’s particularly interesting, but it’s a doozy: the Greek Mac, which is essentially McDonald’s take on a souvlaki wrap.
McDonald’s in Jordan is basically the opposite of what you’ll find in India. India was a veritable cornucopia of quirky menu oddities. Here, on the other hand, all they have are the usual suspects (Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, etc.). There’s a couple of different burgers and chicken sandwiches on the menu, but nothing particularly interesting.
