Is there anybody in the history of the planet who went to Siem Reap but didn’t go to Angkor Wat?  I suppose there was probably at least one maniac who did this at some point, but it certainly wasn’t me.

Angkor Wat

Built in the 12th century, Angkor Wat features some seriously impressive buildings and sights.  It’s basically the main reason to come to Siem Reap.

Though there’s no way to go via public transit, it’s easy enough to get there.  Apparently you can ask any tuk-tuk driver around town, and they’ll take you there and drive you around all day for a set fee (I’ve heard 15 USD, but don’t quote me on that).

I didn’t want to take any chances, so I booked a tour in advance.

Angkor Wat is actually an enormous temple complex spread out over many miles.  My tour group was there all day and spent a bunch of time shuttling from one temple to the next, and it still felt like we had barely scratched the surface.

Also: there were monkeys, but sadly, not many.  There were a couple right at the entrance of the first temple I saw, but then the rest of the day was monkey free.

I think this is the point where I’ll just let the photos do the talking.
