I went to McDonald’s. In Brussels. For real this time! I saw the Golden Arches and everything, so I can say with a reasonable degree of certainly that I wasn’t tricked into going to a different restaurant (again).
I didn’t try much. There’s only so much fast food I want to eat in Brussels considering that I’m only here for a couple of days.
(Also: the McDonald’s I visited had some historical significance, apparently. There was a plaque on the wall stating that this was the first McDonald’s in Belgium, having been opened in 1978.)
I tried one thing: the Cheese Snack, which is actually quite similar (and superior) to the Cheesy Emmental croquettes that I tried at the fake McDonald’s (a.k.a. Quick).
These things are actually surprisingly great. They’re basically upgraded mozzarella sticks. They’re nice and crispy on the outside and filled with Camembert; they’re satisfyingly gooey, with a salty and mildly funky flavour from the cheese.
As far as I’m concerned, mozzarella sticks are dead to me. Cheese Snacks 4 eva.
