What to Do / Eat in Kochi, India

DO

Fort Kochi – This small, scenic island is a quick and cheap ferry ride away, and is one of the main tourist draws in Kochi.

EAT

Gokul Oottupura Vegetarian Restaurant – If you want a dosa (a thin, crispy pancake that’s generally filled with stuff), this is the place to be.

Ifthar – This place isn’t going to rock anybody’s world, but if you’re looking for a solid meal in Kochi, you could absolutely do worse.

Kayees Rahmathulla Cafe – The biryani at Kayees Rahmathulla Cafe isn’t kidding around.  It’s delicious.

McDonald’s – McDonald’s in India has such a delightfully bizarre menu, I couldn’t help but go back several times.

Nawras Seafood Restaurant – The thali here (a sampler plate that comes with various curries) is so good.

Rawal Lassi Joint – A sweet, cold lassi is just that the doctor ordered when it’s hot outside (which is always in Kochi).

Shantilal Sweets – This delightful dessert shop serves various Indian sweets, including jalebi, crispy deep-fried dough that’s been soaked in syrup.

Wow! Momo – This is a local fast food joint that you should absolutely, positively avoid.  It was quite bad, and may have given me a mild case of food poisoning.
