I was wandering around the Mattancherry area of Fort Kochi when I stumbled across a surprisingly busy lassi place. On the sign, right under their name, was the slogan, “Beat the heat, drink lassi.”
Considering that I was completely drenched in sweat at the time, this seemed like a solid idea.
They have a few different varieties of lassi, but I went with the “special lassi.” This is basically a plain, sweet lassi (and a very good one at that), with some additional spices — I definitely tasted nutmeg, and I think there was a bit more going on than just that.
It was really creamy and perfectly tart, with a great level of sweetness and some added complexity from the spices. I really enjoyed it.
Bonus: it was nice and cold, and it did indeed help me to beat the heat (at least momentarily; it’s so damn hot here).
How to find it: It’s basically just a small take-out counter. The sign is in English.
