What to Do / Eat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Batu Caves – The enormous, Godzilla-sized golden statue that stands guard outside of the caves is a breathtaking sight.  The sneaky monkeys that like to steal people’s fruits are a nice bonus.

Monkeys – There’s an area with a lot of parks and museums in the middle of Kuala Lumpur; you might just see some monkeys while you’re there.

Ah Cheng Laksa – Despite being a chain restaurant in a mall, Ah Cheng Laksa serves a seriously tasty bowl of asam laksa.

I Love Yoo – This is a chain that specializes in youtiao (a fried dough stick) and rice porridge.  It’s nothing special, but it’s a solid breakfast.

Koon Kee Wan Tan Mee – This hidden gem in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown serves some great noodles.

Lot 10 Hutong – This is a seriously amazing food court that serves a whole bunch of delicious food.  You basically can’t go wrong with whatever you try.

McDonald’s – McDonald’s in Kuala Lumpur is a bit of a mixed bag.  The Golden Prosperity Burger — a chicken sandwich with a hash brown — is a sloppy, unpleasant mess.  But the rice porridge is pretty good, and the fried red bean pie is even better.  On a separate visit I tried the lychee sundae, which I quite enjoyed.

Peanut pancakes – These peanut pancakes make for a very satisfying street food snack.

Uncle Bean – I stumbled across an amazing street vendor selling a creamy tofu pudding called tau fu fa.  The tofu itself is luxuriously creamy, and the tasty brown sugar ginger syrup puts it over the top.  On a separate visit I tried the soy milk, which was tasty and refreshing.

Village Park Restaurant – This is one of those places that basically everyone recommends you check out while you’re in Kuala Lumpur.  This makes sense; the fried chicken is mind-blowing.
