I Love Yoo is a Malaysian breakfast chain that specializes in youtiao (fried dough sticks) and rice porridge. I’m really not sure why it’s not called “I Love You,” since youtiao is almost always spelled starting with y-o-u and not y-o-o, but that’s neither here nor there.
Nothing about it is particularly mind-blowing, but it’s a decent enough way to start your day.
I ordered the combo that comes with one youtiao, a bowl of rice porridge, and glass of soy milk, which you can either get hot or cold.
The youtiao was fresh, slightly crispy, and not too oily. It worked very well with the rice porridge.
Unlike the rice porridge I had in Tainan, the version here was more like congee and less like a rice soup. It had a subtle seafoody flavour and was topped with chopped green onion, but otherwise didn’t have a ton of flavour.
The only real issue? I made the mistake of ordering this when I had a train to catch. I figured I had enough time to scarf it down, but I didn’t factor in that the porridge would be served inferno-hot. I was only able to eat about a quarter of it before I had to leave. Whoops.
