There’s a Hindu temple in Jaipur called the Hanuman Ji Temple that’s so chock-full of monkeys that it’s become known as the Monkey Temple.  If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you’ll know that if I have a chance to see some monkeys, I’m going to see those monkeys.

So of course I went to the Monkey Temple.  Or did I?  Uh… sort of?

I was in the vicinity of the Monkey Temple, that’s for sure.

When you get there, there’s a winding, very steep pathway that eventually leads to a couple of old buildings at the top of a hill.  There are a ton of monkeys there.  I assumed this was the temple.

This was not the temple.

Apparently if you keep walking down the path past those two small old buildings, you’ll get to the actual temple, which is enormous, and far, far more impressive than what I saw.

Whoops.

Still, as stupid as that was (and it was quite stupid), I got to see a ton of monkeys, so it was worth it regardless.  The moneys at the temple are kind of like the snow monkeys in Nagano; they’re so used to being around people that you can go right up to them and they’ll completely ignore you.

I got to see a monkey eating a banana, which is always delightful.

His banana eating technique is quite unorthodox.

He got about half-way through eating it, threw it on the ground, and then started on a different banana.

Look at these guys.  Just staring off into the distance, thinking about their lives.

Here’s some monkey madness (featuring bonus goats):

It’s hard to be mad at my mistake when I got to see so many monkeys.
