There’s not a whole lot that you can absolutely, positively count on in this world, but here’s one thing: when a restaurant has this on display in their front window, I’m gonna be going inside that restaurant.
If there’s a more glorious sight in the world, I’d like to see it.
Though I would have liked to go eat at St. John — a restaurant that’s pretty famous for helping to popularize nose-to-tail eating in London (and the world) — it’s a bit out of my price range. You know what is in my price range? A restaurant called Hereford Road that was opened by a chef who worked at St. John.
Hey, when you’re on a budget, you take what you can get.
I’ve had some pretty great fish and chips back home. Plus, it’s a pretty simple dish, so how much better could it be over here?
It turns out: substantially better.
Le Relais de l’Entrecote is so admirably single-minded about its dedication to steak frites that there’s literally no menu. The only questions from the waitress are what you want to drink, and how you want your steak cooked. That’s it. If you want to eat something other than steak frites? Get the hell out.
Never mind what I said about the käsespätzle in Germany being the cheesiest thing I’ve ever eaten — it’s already been superseded by this insane bowl of French onion soup from Au Pied de Cochon in Paris.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been going to the place since I was a kid, and thus have fuzzy childhood memories, but I like McDonald’s. I don’t eat there a whole lot, but every time they add something new to the menu, I feel compelled to check it out.
I’ve eaten at restaurants with a nice view before, but I’m pretty confident that this one takes the cake.
The Time Out Market in Lisbon is one of those places that you’re pretty much obligated to visit as a tourist; it’s a gourmet food hall curated by a group of journalists, with the idea being that all of the few dozen or so stalls are offering above-average food.
You know what’s better than eating one bifana? Eating two bifanas. And you know what’s even better than that? Eating three.
