The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung is free, so I sort of figured there wouldn’t be too much to see. I couldn’t have been more wrong; it’s a huge museum with a very impressive, varied collection of art. If you’re in Taichung, it’s a must-visit.
There’s an amazing amount of variety here. There’s puzzling modern art:

This gigantic and oddly mesmerizing model city:
They even currently have some temporary exhibits in conjunction with other museums, such as this exhibit of classical European art from Tainan’s Chimei Museum:
It’s a great museum; I don’t know how they manage to keep it free, but I’m certainly not complaining.

How to find it: It’s an absolutely colossal building. There’s no possible way you can miss it.
