There’s a series of hiking trails in Hong Kong in the Kam Shan Country Park — which is also known as Monkey Hill or Monkey Mountain, thanks to the population of monkeys who hang out in the area.
I find it hard to resist any monkey-related activity. There’s something about those animals that I find endlessly fascinating/hilarious. So yeah, of course I went there.
Sadly, there weren’t quite as many monkeys on the trail as I might have hoped. I certainly saw a few, however.
Between the presence of monkeys and the scenic beauty of the trail, it’s definitely worth doing.
A warning, however: there are very few signs along the trail and several forks in the road, so it’s easy to get lost.
I was assuming there’d be signs everywhere, so I was kinda winging it, and I wound up off the trail and back on the road a bit quicker than I would have liked.
It’s probably a good idea to go there with route in mind.
Location: 九龍水塘, Hong Kong
How to get there: The easiest way to get there is via bus 81, which has a stop right at the beginning of the trail .
