They sell something they call a “croissant” at Jin San Xia.  Other than the general shape, it has almost no resemblance to an actual croissant.

It’s quite good, however.

They have several different varieties, which include fillings and flavours like red bean and chocolate, but I went with plain old original.

I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.  I figured it would be plain and bready, but it actually has a really interesting texture — the outside has a mild sweetness and an almost cookie-like crunch, and the inside is fluffy and buttery.

It’s hard to understate how buttery this thing is.  If you look at the bottom part of that picture, you can see how suffused with butter it is.  Is it too much butter?

That’s a trick question.  There’s no such thing as too much butter.

How to find it: It’s inside the Taipei Main Station (which doesn’t seem to have an address), near the McDonald’s.
