If you’re a tourist in Tainan, Anping Fort is one of those places that you have to see. Don’t even fight it; just go.
It’s got a ton of history. Originally built in 1624 by the Dutch East India Company, it changed hands and was built and rebuilt several times over the years. It was restored in the ’70s, and has been a tourist draw ever since.
You don’t need to plan on spending a ton of time here, but it’s quite interesting to wander around.
There’s a (very very small) museum you can check out.
Plus, you can climb the tower and get some pretty great views of the surrounding area.
That’s about it, really, but for only 50 NT$ (just over two bucks Canadian), it’s definitely worth checking out.
Location: No. 82, Guosheng Rd, Anping District, Tainan City, Taiwan 708
How to find it: It’s hard to miss. The whole area is worth exploring, as it’s surrounded by night-market-esque roads selling all kinds of souvenirs and street foods.
