Chestnut desserts don’t really get the respect they deserve back home.  They basically don’t exist unless you really seek them out (and even then they’re difficult to find), and I don’t understand why.  They’re quite tasty.

Waguriya

Well, the mont blanc at Waguriya might be the chestnuttiest chestnut dessert that I’ve ever had.  It’s pretty amazing.

Waguriya

They actually serve a few variations on mont blanc, but I believe the simplest one is the one Kantaro ate.  There’s no English anywhere in the restaurant, but the photos on the menu make it easy enough to order.

Waguriya

The chestnut flavour is intense.  It’s one of the only desserts I’ve ever had that basically just tastes like sweet, creamy chestnuts.  There aren’t any other flavours to get in the way; it’s great.  The chestnut puree is super creamy with a delightfully subtle sweetness, and the whipped cream helps to round things out.  There are also chunks of crispy meringue that add some texture and pops of sweetness.

Location: 〒110-0001 Tōkyō-to, Taitō-ku, Yanaka, 3 Chome−9−14 谷中銀座商店街内

How to find it: There’s no English sign, but look for the photos of mont blanc posted outside of the restaurant.
