I think the thing that stands out the most about Kooriya Peace — a place that specializes in elaborate shaved ice desserts — is the ice itself.

Shaved ice is shaved ice, right?  Apparently not.  The ice here is amazingly light and fluffy; it basically dissolves the second it makes contact with your mouth.  No grit whatsoever.  It’s pretty amazing.

As for the flavour, I was hoping to get the melon, but alas — that’s a seasonal thing, and it’s not currently the season.  So I ordered the salted caramel instead (this is what Kantaro’s neighbour ordered on the show).

It’s quite tasty.  It’s layered with salted caramel sauce and condensed milk, topped with whipped cream, and comes with a little bonus container of condensed milk on the side.

The caramel has a very satisfying, toasty flavour (it kind of reminds me of the caramelized topping of a creme brulee).  Combined with the condensed milk and the ultra-fluffy ice, it makes for a top-notch dessert.

How to find it: There’s no English, but there are pictures of shaved ice desserts all over the outside of the restaurant.
