The tebirkes at Meyers Bageri was so good, I kinda had to go back.
Though I tried an onsdag snegle at Skt. Peders Bageri, I haven’t technically tried a kanelsnegle; it’s basically the same thing, but I wanted to try the real deal.
Meyers Bageri supposedly has one of the best kanelsnegles in Copenhagen, which was all the excuse I needed to give them another visit.
But then I got there and saw the vaniljesnegel in the window, and… I needed to eat it. I needed it in my belly ASAP. So I ordered that instead.
I regret nothing.
It’s actually surprisingly simple — it’s basically a cinnamon roll, but with a whole bunch of sugar instead of cinnamon.
The pastry itself is what really makes this thing. It’s bready, super fresh, soft, and slightly chewy. The sugar gives it a nice exterior crispiness that contrasts perfectly with the soft pastry.
And the sweet, buttery flavour — though simple — is quite delicious.
It’s not a pastry that’s going to knock anyone’s socks off — it seems a little too basic at first, but it’s quietly delicious in a way that kind of sneaks up on you. It’s great.
