I’ve already posted about a couple of different places around Fukuoka with some really impressive cherry blossoms.
Well, pretty much everywhere you go in the city, you’ll see a few trees with the distinctive flowers. You want some photos? Because I’ve got some photos.
Though Fukuoka isn’t quite Kyoto, there are a handful of temples throughout the city that are definitely worth visiting.
Since I happened to be in Fukuoka during cherry blossom season, I figured I should probably take advantage. So I headed to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, which is about a half hour’s train ride outside of the city (it also costs 450 yen to get in, so it’s not kidding around).
Though Fukuoka Castle, originally built in the 1600s, is long gone, parts of it still remain (mostly just some of the walls).
I’m not particularly a sports guy (and by “not particularly” I mean “not at all”), but if I were going to get into sports, I’d be watching baseball. It’s the only sport I can watch all the way through without getting completely bored.
So when I realized I could watch a baseball game here in Japan, I figured sure, why not.
If you’re in Sapporo and you want to learn about Sapporo Beer, you’re all set. You can either stay inside the city and visit the Sapporo Beer Museum, or you can hop on a train and tour their factory (which is about an hour outside of the city).
Matsushima Bay is a very quick train ride from Sendai (it’s about a half hour away), and the consensus is that it’s one of the most scenic spots in Japan. Obviously, if you’re in Sendai, you’ve gotta check it out.
Rinnō-ji Temple — a very well-restored temple from the 15th century — seems pretty unassuming at first.
When you think of whisky, the first thing that comes to mind is probably either Scotch whisky, or American bourbon. But I think more and more people are starting to realize that Japan is putting out some whiskies that easily rival anything coming out of Scotland.
There’s a temple on top of a mountain called Yamadera — it’s about an hour’s train ride outside of Sendai, and it’s easily a must-visit if you’re in the city.
