If you went to Greece and you didn’t have souvlaki, were you even there? I think we all know that the answer to that question is no.
So yes, of course I had souvlaki. I’m not a crazy person.
I checked out Derlicatesen all Souvlaki, which is incredibly popular. The place was absolutely packed when I went, which is always a good sign.
They have a big, long grill where they cook the skewers (chicken, pork, or mushroom) over coal, which is always a nice sight.
There’s no English menu, but it’s easy enough to order, because of course you’re there for the souvlaki.
I got the pork, and it comes in a wrap with fries, tomatoes, red onion, and a very healthy dollop of tzatziki.
It’s really good, though I couldn’t help but compare it to the gyro I just had from Gyros Aristotelous, and of course, it’s not on that level. Instead of being mind-blowingly amazing, it’s merely excellent.
Everything about it was really good — the pork is tender, nicely marinated, and has a mild smokiness from the grill. And all of the components suit it very well, particularly the zippy tzatziki. I’m not sure if it’s the best souvlaki I’ve ever had, but it’s definitely right up there.

How to find it: Everything’s in Greek, but look for the white sign with red lettering.
