So far, the food I’ve tried in Prague has been extremely okay. Completely inoffensive — tasty, even — but nothing that’s going to get my heart rate up.
I’m a fan of goulash, so I thought that maybe the version they serve at U Rudolfina would be the dish to finally get me excited about Czech cuisine, and… it was fine.
Hey, fine is better than bad. It could be worse.
The Czech version of goulash is interesting — it’s basically all meat, no vegetables.
And the meat here was exceptionally tender. It was quite satisfying. But the sauce was a bit one-note salty, and the bread dumplings on the side were gummy and dense.
Still, I basically enjoyed it. I had a mug of Pilsner Urquell to drink, and it was cold and crisp — a refreshing counterpoint to the heavy stew. It’s an enjoyable combo.
