Though pork patties are pretty much unheard of at McDonald’s back home, they actually pop up on several international menus (most notably in Germany, where the McRib is a permanent item on the menu).

In Croatia, they sell a burger called the McCountry (not to be confused with Austria’s McCountry, which is also made with pork but is otherwise completely different), which comes with two pork patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and “McDeluxe sauce.”

It’s not bad!  The patties basically taste like a less seasoned version of the sausage in a McMuffin, and the McDeluxe sauce has a zippy mustardy flavour that goes with the pork quite well.

I also tried the Hot Chili Beef, which is a double cheeseburger with gouda, arugula, pickles, chili peppers, and chili sauce.  This wasn’t great.  The biggest issue here are the patties themselves, which are the larger, thicker patties McDonald’s uses in their more “premium” burgers.  These patties should not exist.  No one needs bigger McDonald’s beef patties.  They’re dry and mostly tasteless.  When it comes to the beef at McDonald’s, less is more.

I finished with the blueberry and cream cheese pie, which was tasty enough.  The cream cheese was mostly just thick, vaguely tasteless goo, but the blueberry half was sweet and satisfying, and of course, you can’t go wrong with that crispy fried exterior.
