The lumpia from Harga Lumpia Samijaya is basically the best spring roll I’ve ever had.
They only have a couple of things on the menu — the ayam lumpia, which is filled with veggies and chicken, or the special lumpia, which is filled with veggies, chicken, and a quail egg. I went with the latter.
It’s really the crunch factor that makes this so irresistible. It’s perfectly fried, giving the exterior an almost chip-level of crunchiness that’s pretty much the best thing ever. I don’t think I’ve ever had a spring roll with such a perfect exterior.
The filling features a nice mix of crispy veggies and meaty chicken, not to mention the hard boiled quail egg, which is quite satisfying. But it’s the wrapper that makes this so good.
It’s topped with a very garlicky white puree — it kinda looks like pure garlic, but it definitely tastes milder than that.
How to find it: They’re set up right on the main stretch of Malioboro, so if you’re a tourist here, you’ll probably walk by it at some point.
