Trying to find a good place to eat in Siem Reap is weird. Normally, if you google something like “must eat in [insert city here],” you’ll find any number of articles pointing you toward delicious-looking local food.
In Siem Reap, on the other hand, pretty much every article lists a bunch of tourist-friendly cafes and restaurants that serve local and Western dishes to a mostly Western clientele. Finding recommendations for anything that a local might actually consider eating is nearly impossible.
A lot of “be careful of food poisoning!” fear-mongering gets thrown around. It’s not great.
So I just wandered around until I found some tasty-looking street food that appeared to be popular with locals.
This noodle soup stand seemed to fit the bill; I ordered a bowl of yellow noodle soup with chicken, which features noodles, chunks of chicken, some greens, some herbs, and a topping of crispy fried onions. There wasn’t anything particularly mind-blowing about it, but it was a solid bowl of noodle soup.
As usual: don’t skip the chili oil, which really kicks things up.
Location: There’s no address, but I’ve marked the approximate location in Google Maps.
