There are about a million Choco Cro locations in Sendai (or is that St. Marc Cafe? The sign says both, but “Choco Cro” is clearly bigger). Eventually, after passing one for twentieth time and seeing the display of chocolate croissants outside of the store, my curiosity got the better of me. I had to check it out.
They actually have a pretty decent selection of pastries and desserts (including some seriously tasty looking sundaes), but obviously I had to try a Choco Cro.
It’s basically a pain au chocolat, but with an especially generous amount of dark chocolate inside.
When I got it it was still warm and fresh, with a delightfully melty chocolate filling.
It was actually better than I thought it would be (the fact that it was still warm from the oven obviously helped). The chocolate was above average, and though the croissant wasn’t anything special, it was still reasonably flaky and buttery. It might not be the best croissant ever, but the generous amount of good quality, gooey chocolate definitely helps to smooth out any issues.
