McDonald’s in Greece might have one of the most boring menus of any McDonald’s in the world — it’s pretty much exclusively the usual suspects. Oddly enough, they don’t even have the Greek Mac that I tried in Cyprus.
I was able to try a couple of things, however. The first was called the Double Chicken Cheeseburger. This was essentially a standard McDonald’s cheeseburger — cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles, tiny onions — but with McChicken patties instead of burger patties.
This is seemingly pretty straightforward, but there was actually something deeply unsettling about eating a fried chicken sandwich dressed like a cheeseburger. Once I got used to it, however, it actually wasn’t bad (it helped that the chicken patties were hot and fresh). It felt wrong, but in a good way. I’d probably eat this again if it were on the menu back home.
The other thing I tried was called the McToast, a grilled cheese sandwich with two slices of Gruyere and a slice of ham. This wasn’t great. It was nice and melty, but I don’t particularly care for Swiss cheese in the best of times; the plasticky goo in this sandwich certainly wasn’t going to change my mind.
