They have a couple of locations of Steff’s Place in the Copenhagen airport, a hot dog vendor with stands all over the city.
I never got around to trying it in the city; the only Danish hot dog I tried was the upgraded version at John’s Hotdog Deli. So seeing a location at the airport was a nice surprise.
I went with the classic hot dog, and had it topped with the standard Danish toppings (though I skipped the raw onions — I wasn’t about to go on an eleven hour flight with an unpleasant oniony taste in my mouth).
The other hot dog I had in Copenhagen, from John’s Hotdog Deli, was literally the best hot dog I’ve ever eaten.
This was not the best hot dog I’ve ever eaten.
It was pretty good, however — I’d say it was one or two notches above something like Oscar Meyer, but it’s a standard dog. The casing wasn’t particularly snappy, the texture was very smooth, and it was mostly just salty, without much of a meaty flavour.
Don’t get me wrong — if it weren’t for John’s Hotdog Deli, I’d say it was a really good hot dog, but it was hard not to compare it. That’s the problem with eating something truly great; everything else has a hard time measuring up.
