I have (not surprisingly!) been eating quite well in Paris, but the meal I just had at Bistrot Victoires is going to be hard to top.
They serve an assortment of French bistro standards here (think: roast chicken, beef tartare, steak frites, etc.); I went with the duck confit, which comes with a salad and a side of sarladaise potatoes.
The salad was nothing special, but the duck and the potatoes? Oh man.
The duck was basically perfect: the skin was crispy and delicious, and the meat was super tender and flavourful. It was almost certainly the best duck I’ve ever had.
Sarladaise potatoes is a dish in which potatoes are cooked with duck fat and garlic, and it was majestically good. The potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy on the inside, and were thoroughly infused with a really delicious roasted garlic flavour. They were an absolutely perfectly complement to the tender duck.
Bonus: the whole thing cost €13.90, which is delightfully cheap (by Paris standards, at least).
