Not to be confused with Mary Brown’s, a Canadian fried chicken chain, Marrybrown is a Malaysian fried chicken chain (seriously: how is this a coincidence? I don’t buy it) that’s been around since 1981.
They have a very KFC-esque menu featuring the typical assortment of fried chicken, fried chicken sandwiches, and fries.
There’s also the Nasi Marrybrown, which has a bit more local flavour, and which is the only dish on the menu with the word “Marrybrown” in it (it’s generally a safe bet to order a restaurant’s namesake dish).
It’s fine. It’s basically Marrybrown’s version of the dish I had at Village Park. I know it’s not fair to compare the two, but I couldn’t help it — they were so similar. As you’d expect, Marrybrown falls short in every conceivable way.
Still, it’s not bad. Compared to my recent abysmal Malaysian KFC experience, it was positively gourmet. Though the fried chicken was underseasoned, it was well cooked and satisfyingly crispy on its exterior. It’s nothing particularly special, but certainly, it could be worse.
