The Magic Kingdom is the classic Disney park, and it serves some pretty memorable food.
Churro Ice Cream Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow Refreshments
I was afraid this wouldn’t be as good as it looked, but if anything it was better. The churro was still warm and fresh, with a really great contrast between the crispy exterior and the fluffy interior, and the ice cream was above average. It was a bit of a pain to eat (I used a fork and knife, which is advisable), but it was totally worth the trouble. So good.
Cheshire Cat Tail from Cheshire Cafe
This was fine, I guess. It probably wasn’t a great idea to get a pastry like this so soon after having my mind blown by the pastries in Copenhagen. In comparison, this was doughy and lifeless. It was, however, filled with a generous amount of melty chocolate, so there’s that at least.
Pineapple Upside-Down Cake with Dole Whip from Aloha Isle Refreshments
Another dud, sadly. The Dole Whip was just as creamy and refreshing as it was in Disneyland, but the cake was actually pretty bad. It was unpleasantly dry and crumbly, and was a notch or two down in taste from something like Little Debbie. It was easily the worst thing I’ve ever had in a Disney park.
Cuban Spring Rolls from the Adventureland Spring Roll Cart
From the worst to the best. There’s a cart in Adventureland that sells a rotating variety of spring rolls, and when I went, they were selling the Cuban. It’s basically a Cuban sandwich crammed into a spring roll; it’s filled with cubes of ham, pulled pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. It’s shockingly good. The flavours are all balanced just as well as you’d expect in a great Cuban sandwich. I was particularly surprised by how good the pulled pork was — it actually had a decent amount of flavour and texture. And the wrapper had the perfect amount of crunch. It was actually kind of bizarre how delicious this was.
Bacon Mac and Cheese Fries from Casey’s Corner
Though it’s hard for anything to live up to those delightful spring rolls, this was quite tasty. It’s exactly what you’re hoping it’ll be — the fries are nice and crispy, the mac and cheese is gooey and satisfying, and the bacon is… well, it’s bacon. Bacon is always good. I should note that the pickled jalapenos aren’t actually part of it — they were from the condiments bar for the hot dogs. But they compliment the fries perfectly, adding a mild spicy kick and some acidity that works quite well with the very rich dish.
