What to Do / Eat in Chiang Mai, Thailand

DO

Temples – Temples are everywhere in Chiang Mai.  I wrote about a few highlights.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep – This is a temple just outside of the city; it takes a bit of effort to get to, but it’s quite impressive.

EAT

Chang Phueak Pork Leg Rice – This is a Bourdain-approved street food stall selling delicious pork leg rice.

Changphuak Suki – If you’re looking for some very tasty street food noodles, you’ve gotta seek this place out.

Chester’s – Chester’s is a Thai fast food chain that specializes in surprisingly delicious fried chicken.

Coconut Pudding Pancakes – This is a tasty street food snack that straddles the line between dinner and dessert.

Coconut Shell – The mango sticky rice at Coconut Shell is crazy delicious.

Khao Soi – You can’t go to Chiang Mai and not have khao soi, a deliciously rich noodle soup.  I tried it at Sirichai Khao Man Gai, Khao Soi Islam Restaurant, Khao Soi Khun Yai, and Khao Soi Mae Sai (I also ranked the four bowls I tried in that post).

Roast Meats Restaurant – This is a delightfully non-touristy gem that serves tasty roast pork and chicken.

Rote Yiam Beef Noodles – The noodle soup here features pretty much every part of the cow; it’s so good.

SP Chicken – This place serves maybe the best roast chicken that I’ve ever had.  Incredible.
