Yep, after Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia, here’s another Asian fast food joint specializing in fried chicken.
It’s certainly hard to go wrong with fried chicken, so I get it.
The menu, for the most part, consists of various types of chicken with rice. The menu lists the crispy chicken and fish sauce with rice as their specialty, so that’s what I went with.
It’s shockingly good. Like, it’s weird how good it is.
The chicken isn’t battered or breaded, which feels odd at first, but when the skin is this profoundly crispy and tasty, it’s hard to complain. It might have been the crispiest chicken skin I’ve ever had. It was at chip levels of crunchiness. Think of the crunchiest kettle chip you’ve ever had, and you have an idea of what this particular chicken skin was like. It was glorious.
It’s actually a de-boned chicken thigh, which again, feels odd at first, but is actually kind of delightful. You just eat it all! No more navigating around bones like a peasant.
And the chicken itself was perfectly cooked. It was bizarre. You don’t expect anything even remotely this good from a fast food joint. And yet it might have been one of the best pieces of fried chicken I’ve ever had.
I really should have taken a photo after I cut into the chicken, but I guess I was so shocked by how good it was that it completely slipped my mind.
The fish sauce is fine — mostly just sweet. But you could put basically anything on that chicken, and I’d still enjoy the hell out of it.
It also comes with some rice, which is fluffy and fresh, and a simple salad with a creamy dressing.
