There’s a Taiwanese specialty called lu rou fan (or braised pork rice) that consists of ultra-tender pork belly and mushroom on top of rice.
I don’t think there’s any universe in which that wouldn’t be delicious, and certainly, the version they sell at Jin Feng is extremely delicious.
That shouldn’t come as a surprise, however. They serve what is easily the most beloved version of that dish in Taipei, and eating it, it’s easy enough to see why.
The pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, fatty, and incredibly rich, and the meaty mushrooms are the perfect accompaniment. The delicious, slightly sweet sauce and the pork mingles with the rice in a way that’s downright magical. It comes with some pickled radish on the side, which helps to cut through the intense richness of the pork. It’s insanely delicious.
Location: No. 10, Section 1, Roosevelt Rd, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100
How to find it: There’s no English anywhere, but look for the green painted mountains and blue sky on the sign. It’s hard to miss (also, it’ll almost certainly be packed, so look for the crowds).
