The good news: after visiting one international fast food joint after another specializing in fried chicken, I’ve found one that features a traditional burger-heavy menu. The bad news: it’s terrible.
Lucky Burger is basically Cambodia’s answer to McDonald’s, which is good for them because McDonald’s doesn’t exist in Cambodia (which is especially odd since they have other American fast food chains like Burger King and KFC).
The menu is quite McDonald’s-esque, but with the obligatory presence of fried chicken and rice that you’ll find at most fast food joints in this part of the world.
I went with the eponymous Lucky Burger, which is a single patty hamburger that comes topped with pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a tangy mayonnaise-based sauce.
It’s not good. It basically tastes like the worst McDonald’s burger you’ve ever had — the patty is incredibly dry and crumbles into sad little meat pellets as you chew it. It just barely tastes like beef. It’s pretty gross.
The bun and the toppings are all about what you’d expect.
I also had an order of fries on the side, which were pretty standard battered fries. They weren’t great, but they were hot and fresh, so they were quite edible.
Bonus: there’s a packet of chili sauce along with the typical packet of ketchup. It’s sweet and a little bit spicy. It’s a great dip.
Location: Situva Road Mondul 2 Village, Krong Siem Reap 17252
