Did I eat a bunch of junk while at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? You bet I did.
Mickey Pretzel with Cheese Sauce
I mean, it’s a giant pretzel in the shape of Mickey’s head. There aren’t really any surprises here. I will say that it’s a quality pretzel — fluffy but not too fluffy, a good amount of salt, and a nice texture overall. I also quite enjoyed the cheese sauce. It’s plasticky goo that only vaguely resembles cheese, but I think it’s a notch above Cheez Wiz. It works quite well with the pretzel.
Onion Straws from Rosie’s All-American Café
I actually read about these online, and it’s a good thing I did, because they’re not technically on the menu. You can order them, of course, but for whatever reason they’re not advertised, so it’s something of a secret menu item. They might be the best value in the park — an order comes up to $3.52 and comes with a pretty substantial amount of food. They’re pretty tasty, too; they’re basically onion rings with a slightly more aggressive level of seasoning than usual. They come with a zesty, slightly spicy sauce that compliments them well.
Tres Leches Verrine from Fairfax Fare
It’s hard to go wrong with tres leches, a sweet cake soaked through with evaporated milk, condensed milk, and cream. The version here isn’t the best I’ve ever had (and it’s throat-burningly sweet), but it’s creamy, satisfying, and tasty.
Totchos from Woody’s Lunchbox
Okay, these were pretty amazing. It sounds ridiculous — tater tots topped with chilli, cheese, Fritos, and sour cream — but it was surprisingly satisfying. The tater tots were crispy enough to hold up to the many toppings, and the combo of the cheese, chilli, and sour cream (not to mention the additional crunch you get from the corn chips) was quite enjoyable. They also have little packets of Texas Pete hot sauce you can pour on top, which is a must. It’s not particularly spicy, but it adds a nice zinginess that helps to cut the richness of all the other components.
